The University of Manila (UM) conducted a coastal clean-up drive on September 21, 2025, assembling students, faculty members, and volunteers to advance environmental awareness and marine conservation.
The event took place along a designated shoreline and was organized to address escalating marine pollution issues while fostering a sense of environmental responsibility among participants. Equipped with gloves, sacks, and cleaning implements, UM volunteers collaborated to remove plastic waste, debris, and other non-biodegradable materials from the coastal area.
University officials emphasized that the initiative reflects UM’s ongoing dedication to sustainability and community involvement. The clean-up drive also provided an experiential learning opportunity for students, enabling them to directly observe the consequences of improper waste disposal on coastal ecosystems.
Student volunteers reported a strong sense of enthusiasm and satisfaction in contributing to the project, highlighting how collective efforts can drive substantial environmental improvements. Many noted that individual actions, when united, have the potential to effect significant change.
The event concluded with a final briefing reiterating the importance of responsible waste management and persistent advocacy for environmental protection. Through such initiatives, the University of Manila actively promotes civic engagement and environmental stewardship within the campus and the broader community.
